SQUARE - D: A UNT CoLAB Community Exhibition

Prospectus

square - d is an annual community art exhibition presented by the UNT CoLab Gallery, now in it’s fourth year.

Artists will enter the show by purchasing a blank 8-inch square canvas or wooden panel from the UNT CoLab for $6. This will serve as the entry fee for the show. The artist must agree to donate their completed artwork to the exhibition. Proceeds from the sale of any works will benefit the UNT Food Pantry presented by Kroger.

Eligible Media

Art MUST incorporate the canvas/panel received by the UNT CoLab. Each artist will receive a numbered 8” x 8” canvas or 8” x 8” wooden panel to be used in the piece. Please note that there is a limited supply of wooden panels. Any medium is welcome, as long as the work is original, and created with intention. Feel free to add elements, deconstruct or otherwise transform the panel or canvas, just be sure it is incorporated in the finished submission. The rest is limited only to your imagination! Please note: we have found that acrylic pour paintings and similar works are not as appealing as original works.

Please note any submitted artwork should be appropriate for a community venue that is open to all ages and family friendly.

The UNT CoLab reserves the right to exclude any work based on appropriateness and/or violation of guidelines.

Number Of Entries + Entry Fee

Each artist may submit a total of two entries.

Entry fees will be collected via the purchase of the 8-inch square canvas or panel from the UNT CoLab for $6 each.

Sales

• Work included in the exhibit will be priced at $25. A selection of pieces will be available to bid on via silent auction.
• Works may not be presold.  Any piece displayed in the exhibition must be available to purchase at the opening reception.
• Any unsold works at the close of the exhibition will be returned to the artist in August.
• Any work not picked up by August 29, 2026, may be discarded.

During the opening reception, buyers will be allowed to purchase a maximum of 2 - $25 pieces. However, buyers may return any day after the opening reception to purchase more works as desired. Silent auction pieces are exempt from this rule. Silent auction bids must be placed in-person.

Delivery Of Work

Artists must return their completed piece to the UNT CoLab by Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Publicity

The exhibition will be publicized via social media and online calendar postings for the purpose of promoting the exhibition, UNT Food Bank presented by Kroger, and UNT CoLab.

All art on display is subject to be included in these postings.

The UNT CoLab is a multi-functional venue in the heart of downtown Denton. The UNT CoLab is comprised of a retail boutique featuring unique, artisan and alumni-made goods, a gallery space with monthly rotating exhibitions, and an event venue that bridges the campus to the community in meaningful ways. In addition, the UNT CoLab functions as a Student Learning Lab operated by the College of Merchandising, Hospitality & Tourism.

The UNT Food Pantry presented by Kroger serves UNT students who may be experiencing hunger or food insecurity.  The UNT Food Pantry is funded by donations only! Any monetary or food donation helps provide needed resources to UNT students.  Students can visit free of charge once per week to supply themselves with food and various other items that can help them achieve success in their academic journey at UNT.

Gallery Accessibility

The mezzanine is only accessible via staircase. Any artwork displayed upstairs will also be viewable digitally on the main level.
